Breast cancer is the number one cause of death in Thai women, followed by cervical cancer, far outnumbering liver and bile duct cancer and lung cancer. These four cancers are responsible for more than 50 percent of Thai women’s cancers.

Are you at risk of breast cancer? Here are some worrying factors:

Getting Older The risk for breast cancer increases with age over 35

Genetic Mutations Reproductive History Early menstrual periods before age 12 and starting menopause after age 55.

Family History of Breast Cancer A woman’s risk for breast cancer is higher if she has a mother, sister, or daughter (first-degree relative) or multiple family members on either her mother’s or father’s side of the family.

So how can you lower your breast cancer risk? Here’s how:

  • Keep a healthy weight.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Don’t drink excessive amounts of alcohol, and limit alcoholic drinks to no more than one per day.
  • Breastfeed your children, if possible.
  • If you have a family history of breast cancer or inherited changes in your BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, talk to your doctor about other ways to lower your risk.
  • Staying healthy throughout your life will lower your risk of developing cancer, and improve your chances of surviving cancer if it occurs.

Previously, the major method of detection was BSE (Breast Self-Examination) by the woman herself, however technology has developed the Digital Mammogram (3D) withTomosynthesis and Ultrasound which is recommended for all women over 35 years of age.

For women under 35, the Ultrasound is enough to show any suspicious areas in the breast and compare with previous annual check-ups. Make an appointment today for a full check. Early detection is the answer for breast cancer. Speak to our Breast Specialists.

Breast cancer can be cured, if detected early enough.
